“My work is a subversion on reality, film music the primary forum in which truth may be exposed.”
Film composer and ambient/electronica artist Nik Karlin employs techniques of synthesis, tape degradation, contemporary composition and electronic production with the force of his musical collaborators to create challenging, yet immersive works set to film.
Nik’s understanding of the recording studio, paired with creative and compositional vigour allows him to emerge; head of musical department, artist and composer in a completely modern sense. This modernity is grounded in understanding and possibly even obsession for artists before him and the recording studio treated as an instrument in its own right.
2022 will see the culmination of a 8 year album journey and supporting short film. The project has been captured on 16mm film stock, with it’s soundtrack recomposed from the original album material. “Camera Obscura” it’s title and conceptual underpinning.
